In this article, I will be discussing the many reasons why far infrared saunas help firefighters protect against cancer, not only for preventative measures but also for treatment.

According to a University of Cincinnati study, firefighters are 2-3 times more likely to develop cancer than the general population. Cancer has become so prevalent amongst fireman they now have their own firefighter cancer support network.

Many firefighters are under the false impression that simply wearing PPE it is sufficient enough to limit exposure to most cancer-causing agents encountered while fighting fires.

An excerpt taken from an article titled, 8 ways to protect against cancer, written on the Fire Rescue 1 website, states,

The reality is that firefighters are more likely to be exposed to hazardous materials during structure fires than they are during hazardous materials incidents. Not only are there differences in the manner in which these emergency responses are carried out, but the most important distinction is that most structural fires create large volumes of hazardous gases and particulates, some of which are persistent and remain in the environment after the fire is extinguished.

So how can Far Infrared Saunas Help Firefighters Protect Against Cancer?

First, let’s take a look at history and the use of heat to treat illnesses especially patients with cancer.

Give me the power to create fever, and I will cure any disease. – Hippocrates

For many years doctors have been searching for ways to fight cancer and through very careful observation, they discovered that patients who developed fevers would sometimes go into remission.

Such an observation prompted New York Memorial Hospital physician Dr. William Coley in the late 1800’s to publish a paper on how inducing a fever in the body of a cancer patient might stimulate the immune response and cause cancer remission.

Now cancer clinics in Germany and Mexico routinely apply this principle by using both infrared hyperthermia and infrared saunas with their patients. Plus more than 20 hospitals in the US are offering some form of hyperthermia treatment for cancer.

The principle of hyperthermia is that cancer cells are much more sensitive and intolerant to excessive heat than normal cells. In fact, high temperatures can actually kill cancer cells without damage to healthy cells.

An infrared sauna in your home is like having your own personal retreat, wellness center, & de-stressing zone! The best way to eliminate metals & chemicals is through SWEAT. When your body temperature is increased 2-3 degrees in a sauna session, cancer cells are slowed down & can die, & white blood cells & killer T cells are produced & hyper-mobilized. The natural healing mechanisms of the body are optimized through hyperthermia or an “artificial fever” that raises body temperature 2 or 3 degrees. The heart is strengthened, & calories are burned at about the rate of a moderate run!~Robyn Openshaw

A clinical study published in 2009 in the Journal of Cancer and Therapy, scientists studied far infrared’s effect on human cancer cells. They concluded that Far infrared therapy reduced tumor volumes by 86% in 30 days.

Although there are many techniques for generating hyperthermia, FAR infrared saunas are definitely one of the easiest and safest ways to do so. You can read more about that here.

Let’s get back to how Far Infrared Saunas Help Firefighters Protect Against Cancer.

“After a fire, the guys used to complain that they smelled of smoke for three days. Plus, they took the toxins/chemicals home and exposed their families. Now if they go in the Infrared Sauna they sweat it out in a few minutes. ”  Chief Kraig Biefeld Watertown, WI, FD

Did you know that Saunas were used as the primary treatment for toxin overload for first responders after 9/11.

A study conducted on first responders of the World Trade Center (WTC) utilizing a sauna detox protocol found:

  • 84% of responders were able to discontinue medications used to manage symptoms related to World Trade Center chemical exposure.
  • Over 50% of responders were using pulmonary medications and 72% of them were off all pulmonary medications after detoxification.
  • Thyroid function testing showed statistically significant improvement.
  • Intelligence Quotient (IQ) testing showed improvement in cognitive function.
  • Postural sway testing (balance) showed significant improvement in vestibular function.

“As a firefighter, detoxification and cancer prevention are my #1 priorities.
Infrared sauna heat therapy helps me safely detox my body and at the same time,
helps to recovery my sore muscles and body aches. The chromotherapy lighting also helps alot to combat my PTSD. Buying a sauna for my home was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”~MD Syracuse NY

Further more, Sauna detox studies have long showed that saunas reduce carcinogenic toxins and chemical such as, PCBs, PBBs, dioxins, various drugs, pesticides, and heavy metals from the body.

So in conclusion, a far infrared sauna is a firefighters best way to protect themselves from getting cancer. Just as fireman are committed to saving lives, we at Pure Life Energy Saunas are committed to saving as many fire fighters as we can too!
